L.A. COUNTY REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK AND UCLA ATHLETICS ENCOURAGE BRUIN FANS TO “TACKLE YOUR FUTURE AND VOTE”
On Saturday, October 4, 2008, the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) will be recognized as an official partner with UCLA Athletics and ISP Sports Network when UCLA faces Washington State at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. RR/CC Dean Logan said, “As game sponsor the RR/CC will host a voter information and registration booth at the UCLA Fan Zone in Area H of the Rose Bowl to encourage voter registration and to recruit poll workers for the November 4 Presidential General Election.”
In addition to the October 4 game sponsorship, a voter information and registration booth will be available at the UCLA Fan Zone at all remaining home games through October 18. Voters must be registered by October 20 to be eligible to cast a ballot in the November 4 Presidential General Election.
“We are excited about our partnership with UCLA Athletics and ISP Sports Network which allows for voter services and information to be available in the Fan Zone and provides a unique opportunity for Bruin fans to engage in the democratic process by registering to vote and signing up to work as poll workers or student election workers,” added Logan.
Los Angeles County serves all voters including those with specific needs. Polling places are equipped with audio ballot booths that provide audio translation of ballots and other assistive services for voters with disabilities. Registration and election materials are also available in seven languages to serve citizens with limited English proficiency.
In conjunction with UCLA Athletics and ISP Sports Network, the RR/CC encourages all eligible residents to register to vote before the October 20, 2008 close of registration deadline so that they can cast a vote in the upcoming Presidential General Election. “In particular, in partnering with the Bruins and ISP Sports Network, we want to encourage first time voters to get engaged with the elections process,” said Logan. The theme for the game sponsorship is ‘Tackle Your Future…Vote. You count.’
Additional details about registering to vote, becoming a poll worker and other valuable voter information can be found on the RR/CC website at www.lavote.net.
