SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT to receive $1.4 million grant to REDUCE DNA BACKLOG

LOS ANGELES COUNTY – To reduce the backlog of sexual assault cases waiting for DNA testing, the Board of Supervisors approved a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to improve the Sheriff’s Department’s DNA analysis capacity and the infrastructure of the existing crime laboratory, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

In addition, the Department will use the grant funds to pay for laboratory staff overtime and outsourcing of DNA to accredited fee-to-service laboratories.
