DISCOVER MARINA DEL REY DAY SET FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10th

 

            MARINA DEL REY, CALIF. – September 21, 2010 - “Discover Marina del Rey Day 2010,” is a free community and family-oriented event that will take place on Sunday, October 10, from 11 am to 4 pm in Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

The event offers information booths from various organizations on health, safety and the environment, plus water activities, live music, inflatables, rides, games, marionette shows, arts and crafts, food and much more.  Admittance to the park is free.  The purchase of a $5 wristband gives attendees access to all attractions including a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.  Food is also available for purchase at the park’s new restaurant.

Discover Marina del Rey Day is sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe and the Department of Beaches and Harbors.  Exciting events include the popular air-sea rescue demonstration in the Marina’s main channel by the United States Coast Guard, a special screening of the Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar film “UP” at 1:30 pm, live music from Orquesta Charangoa preceded from 12:30 pm to 1 pm by the Venice High School choral group, the Allegros, under the direction of Wendy Kornbeck.  The Bob Baker Marionettes will present performances throughout the day and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer unique arts and crafts workshops.  Beaches and Harbors’ W.A.T.E.R. Youth Program staff will offer leisure kayaking from noon to 3 pm in the main channel for visitors ages 6 and up. 

Visitors can tour the Marina del Rey Anglers/Ocean Resources Enhancement Program’s White Sea Bass grow out pen, which will allow visitors to watch the counting and releasing of the sea bass.  The group will also sponsor youth fishing off the fishing dock for visitors ages 7 to 15.  Sea bass grow out pen tours and youth fishing conclude at 3 pm.

Event parking is available for $8 in Los Angeles County lots #4 and #45L located at 13500 and 13545 Mindanao Way respectively.
