Rain advisory for the beaches in effect until further notice

-----------------------

For Immediate Release:
December 23, 2010

Rain Advisory:
Advisory for all Los Angeles County beaches in effect until further
notice

LOS ANGELES - Because of ongoing rainfall, the County Health Officer is
cautioning residents who are planning to visit Los Angeles County
beaches to be careful of swimming, surfing, and playing in ocean waters
around discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers. Bacteria, debris,
trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain
areas are likely to enter ocean waters though these outlets.

"Fortunately, discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers only
comprises a small portion of the beach, and therefore, anybody who wants
to go to the beach will be able to enjoy their outing," said Jonathan
E. Fielding, MD, MPH, Public Health Director and Health Officer. "We
do advise swimmers and surfers to stay away from the storm drains,
creeks and rivers as there is the possibility that bacteria or chemicals
from debris and trash may contaminate the water near and around these
areas, and some individuals may become ill."

Areas of the beach apart from discharging storm drains, creeks, and
rivers are exempted from this advisory. This advisory will be in effect
until further notice.

Recorded information on beach conditions is available 24 hours a day on
the County's beach closure hotline: 1-800-525-5662. Information is
also available online at our website:
http://www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/beach/.

Patt Morrison for Friday, 12/24/2010 - HOLIDAY SHOW - ON TAPE

PATT MORRISON SCHEDULE

Friday, December 24, 2010

1-3 p.m.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM – ON TAPE

1:00 – 1:40

Comedy Congress swears in Lewis Black

The only true medicine for the pain of politics is laughter-after all, if we werent laughing at the (mostly) unintentional humor emanating from Washington D.C. and the campaign trail, chances are wed be crying.  On the eve of the much-anticipated midterm elections--and you can tell because the collective hysteria and volume from politicians across the country is on the rise--Patt gavels Comedy Congress to order with comedic great Lewis Black.  As politicians hand out Viagra to trick-or-treating pedophiles and Aqua Buddhas find a seat at the debate, it's hard to make sense of all the political nonsense. Tomorrow well probably cry about our lost votes, but today let's revel in the madness-the truth hurts far less when its told by comedians.

Guest:

Lewis Black, Emmy-nominated comedian, playwright and author. His new book is "I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas."

  • Black is the creator of the long-running segment Back in Black on "The Daily Show" co-creator of "Last Laugh with Lewis Black," he presides over "Lewis Blacks the Root of All Evil," he's also a regular on late-night television shows such as Late Night with Conan O'Brian and has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman.

1:40 – 2:00

Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons:  Tales of redemption from an Irish mailbox

It’s probably happened to many people with hyperactive mothers—you’re reorganizing the attic, moving houses or just poking around through old stuff and you come across a box full of letters, ticket stubs and other keepsakes collected over the years commemorating the good, bad and ugly of you life.  Comedian Greg Fitzsimmons came across just such a box, or boxes in his case, which contained disciplinary letters, incident reports and newspaper clippings that his parents received from teachers & school officials.  In his book “Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons” Greg picks up where his parents left off with his own collection of letters received during college and throughout his career.  Just in time for Thanksgiving, where the best and worst of childhood memories are dragged across the dinner table, Greg & his mother share the trials and tribulations of being in a family without losing your sanity.

Guest:

Greg Fitzsimmons, comedian, writer, actor, radio host and author of “Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons:  Tales of redemption from an Irish mailbox”

Pat Fitzsimmons, Greg’s mom

2:00 – 3:00

Imagine you’re LAPD Chief Beck or L.A. County Sheriff Baca and you’re in charge of law and order in this multi-cultural stew, with dwindling budgets and increasing demands on your force. How do you balance the day to day demands of catching criminals and tracking transgressors, crime prevention, anti-gang activities, working with other agencies to secure homeland security as well as community outreach? Patt Morrison gets an inside view of law and order in the Southland with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and LA County Sheriff Lee Baca.
