L.A. COUNTY REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK AND PIERCE COLLEGE PARTNER
TO ENCOURAGE L.A. COUNTY RESIDENTS TO “GROW YOUR VOTE”
Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean Logan is pleased that the RR/CC will be part of the Fourth Annual Halloween Harvest Festival at 20800 Victory Blvd. (SE Corner of De Soto and Victory) at Pierce College in Woodland Hills. Through a partnership with Pierce College, the RR/CC will be providing election information and voter registration materials to be made available at a voter education booth hosted by Pierce College through October 20.
The RR/CC organized a deputy registrar training at Pierce College for volunteers staffing the booth to enable them to provide voter registration services to the residents of L.A. County attending the festival. Logan said, “The ‘Grow Your Vote’ festival theme compliments the RR/CC ‘Vote, You Count!’ campaign. The corn maze, created by Pierce College, that depicts an American Bald Eagle and shooting stars is both entertaining and educational, and is a wonderful way of engaging festival participants in the democratic process.”
In conjunction with Pierce College, the RR/CC encourages all eligible residents to register to vote before the October 20, 2008 close of registration deadline so that they can cast a vote in the upcoming November 4 Presidential General Election. “In partnering with Pierce College, we want to encourage first time voters to get engaged with the elections process,” said Logan.
Los Angeles County serves all voters including those with specific needs. Polling places are equipped with audio ballot booths that provide audio translation of ballots and other assistive services for voters with disabilities. Registration and election materials are also available in seven languages to serve citizens with limited English proficiency.
Additional details about registering to vote, becoming a poll worker and other valuable voter information can be found on the RR/CC website at www.lavote.net.
