Schmidt Asks for Investigation of Heilman Campaign Finance Reports

Letter to City Attorney details three possible Campaign Finance Violations

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA, Thursday, February 17, 2011—West Hollywood City
Council Candidate Scott Schmidt called for an investigation into
campaign finance violations by incumbent John Heilman, citing three
potential areas for investigation.

“As far as I can tell, John Heilman’s campaign finance disclosures are
less than transparent, and John Heilman signed his name on them, and
he needs to be held accountable,” said Schmidt.

“John Heilman claims that he had spent $0 on printing, mail, staff,
headquarters through January 22nd, nor had he encumbered any such
expenses. No one who lives in West Hollywood and can believe he is
telling the truth. We’ve all gotten a piece of mail or a door hanger
that says ‘Paid for by John Heilman’—so why doesn’t he say so in his
campaign finance report?”

“West Hollywood has only one ethics commission—the voters—and only the
voters can hold John Heilman accountable for his lack of transparency
running this campaign and running this City for the past 27 years.”
