Requests For Vote By Mail Ballots And Official Sample Ballot Mailings Underway

Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean Logan today, reminded voters in the 51st State Assembly District that voters who wish to vote by mail in the September 1, 2009 Special Primary Election have until Tuesday, August 25th to request a Vote by Mail ballot.

According to RR/CC Dean Logan, “As of August 20th, more than 23,000 Vote by Mail ballots have been issued to voters and more than 4,600 voters have already returned them”.  Voters will have until Tuesday, August 25th to request a Vote by Mail ballot.  Voted ballots must be received by the RR/CC no later than September 1, 2009 by 8:00 p.m.  No postmarked ballots will be accepted.

The State of California offers every registered voter an opportunity to cast a vote by mail.  “With the busy schedules Los Angeles County voters manage, a Vote by Mail ballot offers everyone an opportunity to participate in our democratic process.  As in every election, our department will process every Vote by Mail request throughout the period of August 3, 2009 up until August 25, 2009,” concluded Logan.

REQUESTING A VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT

Voters may request a Vote by Mail ballot in one of the following ways:

    • Complete the Vote by Mail application on the back cover of the Official Sample Ballot booklet; or
    • Submit an electronic request by visiting the RR/CC website at www.lavote.net and click on Apply for Vote by Mail Ballot located in the Online Services box of the main page; or
    • Send a letter addressed to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, Vote by Mail Section, P.O. Box 30450, Los Angeles, CA 90030-0450; or
    • Apply in person at the RR/CC Headquarters, 12400 Imperial Hwy., 3rd Floor, Room 3002, Norwalk, CA 90650.

 

Voters who request a Vote by Mail ballot can check on the status of their request using the RR/CC’s online look-up. Visit www.lavote.net and click on the

Mail Ballot Status button in the Quick Links box located on the main page.  You may also call the RR/CC at (562) 466-1323. 

RETURNING YOUR VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT

In order to be counted, ballots cast by mail must be returned with sufficient time for mail delivery to the RR/CC by 8 p.m. on September 1st (postmarked

ballots will not be counted).  Vote by Mail ballots may also be returned in person to the RR/CC Headquarters, or delivered to any polling place in the district

before the polls close at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. A voter may authorize a designated family member to return the voted ballot to a polling place or to the

RR/CC in accordance with the procedures outlined on the Vote by Mail ballot return envelope.
