Appeal set on approval of retail center in Quartz Hill that would include carwash, offices and service stations.  (Item 8) DENIED APPEAL

 

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich asks feasibility of requiring future County contractors to use new federal system that allows employers to electronically verify whether employees can legally work in the United States. (Item 12) APPROVED

 

Proposal calls for County to lobby the State for a solution that promotes public safety and avoids shifting responsibility to local government in deciding how to cut $1.2 billion in prison costs, and express concern about impact of early release of elderly and infirm inmates.  (Items 13, 24A) APPROVED

 

$456,183 contract with First 5 Los Angeles would allow County to rate the quality of services provided at 200 child care facilities.  (Item 15) APPROVED

 

Ordinance would allow development of 92 single-family lots, 93 senior condominium units, fire station, and removal of 52 oak trees in Newhall area of Santa Clarita Valley.  (Items 16, 22) APPROVED

 

$474,615 proposal would fund construction of gate system/fencing at juvenile hall facility in Sylmar to address security concerns.  (Item 18, cont. from 8/18) APPROVED

 

Board asked to approve indemnity agreements with 40 cities that contract with the Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services.  (Item 19) APPROVED

 

Report scheduled on effectiveness of software-based safety and risk assessment tool used by social workers to predict the likelihood of child abuse; and existing caseloads ratios compared with surrounding counties, with recommendations for improvements.   (Item 23) RECEIVED AND FILED

 

Recommendation calls for sending letter to the University of California regents to urge they take action at their Sept. 1 meeting on partnering with the County to operate King Hospital.  (Motion introduced at meeting.)  APPROVED

 

Supervisors in closed session consider two lawsuits:  a debtors case and a suit arising from injuries incurred when a car hit pedestrians in a crosswalk.  (Items CS-1, CS-2)

 

Supervisors in closed session consider candidates for county counsel, lead attorney for the Children’s Special Investigation Unit, and Department of Health Services independent review services officer.  (Items CS-5, CS-6 and CS-7)
