L.A. COUNTY STAGES NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED “CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH” WITH WIDE RANGE OF COMMUNITY INFORMATION EVENTS
The Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department (CSSD) again has scheduled an ambitious calendar of award winning, community outreach in Los Angeles County in August for the statewide celebration of Child Support Awareness Month.
“A Building Block For Our Children’s Future” is the theme of L.A. County’s 2009 observance of Child Support Awareness Month which is designed to highlight the importance of child support to families and children and to recognize the child support professionals dedicated to collecting support.
Staff from L.A. County CSSD will be talking with the public at more than 60 outreach events in L.A. County during August (see related calendar). The Department is teaming up with a number of community-based organizations and government agencies including the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, the Women, Infant and Children program (WIC), WorkSource centers, local schools and community organizations.
A highlight of the August outreach is a traditional free workshop on child support services on for community organizations, churches, elected officials and the media. The event will be held on August 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Philip Browning Room at L.A. County CSSD offices in Commerce at 5500 S. Eastern. Seating is limited. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors helped kick off Child Support Awareness Month 2009 on Tuesday, July 28 by presenting a resolution commending L.A. County CSSD for its work on the behalf of families and children in L.A. County
L.A. County’s expanded community outreach is part of the Department’s continued success in improving the collection of child support and customer service for residents of Los Angeles County. L.A. County CSSD is the largest locally administered child support agency in the country with 425,000 cases and collected $500 million in support for children and families last year.
