ANTONOVICH AND FIRE CHIEF FREEMAN TO HOLD

PRESS CONFERENCE ON ILLEGAL FIREWORKS

WHAT:                        Supervisor Antonovich and Chief P. Michael Freeman to hold press conference in on dangers of illegal fireworks.

SANTA CLARITA VALLEY – To ensure Los Angeles County residents enjoy a safe July 4th celebration, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich will join County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman in hosting a press conference warning residents on the dangers of illegal fireworks.

 

The penalties for possession or use can range from a fine of up to $1000, to confinement in a County jail for up to one year. Certain products like M-80’s and M-100’s are considered explosives and are a felony to possess.  The penalties can be as high as 16 months in state prison.  Parents are liable for any damage or injuries caused by their children using fireworks.

 

Santa Clarita Valley residents are encouraged to enjoy one of several community fireworks shows including the annual Stevenson Ranch Fireworks Spectacular at Richard H. Rioux Memorial Park, and the City of Santa Clarita’s Fireworks Celebration at the Westfield Town Center.

 

Supervisor Antonovich encourages residents who see illegal fireworks to contact the Sheriff’s Department Tip Line at (661) 284-2-TIP.  If you would like to surrender your illegal fireworks, please contact Sergeant Gregg Lewison at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs Station at (661) 799-5158 to make arrangements.
