Actor Kirk Douglas and his wife, Anne, presented “Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service” for their assistance in dedicating 400 playgrounds at elementary schools throughout County.

 

College of the Canyons men and women’s golf teams recognized for winning the 2008 state championship.

 

Long Beach resident Sgt. Major Ramon Rodriguez recognized for his induction into the U.S Army’s Ranger Hall of Fame.

 

Dominguez High School student Laura Villafana from Compton honored for winning first place in the Calaspia International Story Competition contest.

 

Proposal would raise sewer rates for FY 2008-09 for single family residents in several areas, ranging from $5 to $689.  (Item 1):

 

Proposal would increase Marina del Rey boat slip rental rates at County-operated Anchorage 47 10-25% over three years, depending on size, and ceiling for live-aboard charges 20% annually until 2011.   (Item 6)

 

Board asked to approve rate revisions for various Park and Recreation fees, including the establishment of the following (Item 8):

·        $10 vehicle entrance fee for limousines at several regional parks/recreational areas;

·        Bicycle  Motocross Track fees at Whittier Narrows ranging from $15 - $60 for scholarship races;

·        $18 camping fee at Marshall Canyon Region Park

 

Proposal would establish fee for new residential/commercial developments in Santa Clarita, Newhall and Gorman areas to offset cost of constructing new law enforcement facilities. (Item 9)

 

Supervisors Don Knabe and Zev Yaroslavsky ask for report identifying additional services/resources that would enhance the youth jobs program, designed to provide meaningful employment and an introduction into the workplace. (Item 12)

 

Report requested on the number of victims being served by the CalWORKS/General Relief domestic violence program, and whether there is an equitable spread of resources.   (Item 13)

 

Supervisor Mike Antonovich proposal would allow the Chinatown Service Center (CSC) to lease a County building in Alhambra for free for 60 years in exchange for CSC’s commitment to upgrade the building and provide healthcare services/training programs to the community.  (Item 16)

 

Maximum $974,342 proposal would fund three-year consulting contract for work related to updating the Los Angeles County General Plan.  (Item 30, cont. from 6/17)

 

Board in closed session discusses lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the County’s utility user tax ordinance.  (CS-1)
