Legendary Actor Kirk Douglas & Wife Anne to Receive

 Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service

 

Since 1997, the Anne & Kirk Douglas Foundation has provided more than

$8 million to build or refurbish 400 playgrounds in L.A. County

 

WHAT:                        Kirk and wife Anne Douglas will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service from L.A. County Board of Supervisor’s Chair Yvonne B. Burke for helping to install 400 playgrounds within the Los Angeles Unified School District.

 

WHO:                          Supervisor Burke and other members of the Board of Supervisors; Kirk and Anne Douglas; and a host of family and friends and district officials representing schools that have benefited from the Douglases’ generosity over the years.

 

WHEN:                        Tuesday, June 24

9:30 a.m. – the Douglases will be officially honored by the Board during its regularly scheduled weekly meeting in Room 381B, Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 Temple Street, Los Angeles CA 90012.

 

BACKGROUND:        Kirk and Anne Douglas recently helped dedicate a playground at Lillian Elementary School in South Los Angeles, marking the 400th play area they have funded through the non profit Anne & Kirk Douglas Foundation Playground Award. The award was established by the couple more than a decade ago by the foundation, a project of Community Partners.  It was created when Anne read an article in the Los Angeles Times about the problem of dilapidated school playgrounds.
