43rd STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT SPECIAL PRIMARY ELECTION

REQUESTS FOR VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS UNDERWAY

Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean Logan today reminded voters in the 43rd State Assembly District that the deadline to request a Vote by Mail ballot for the April 13, 2010 Special Primary Election is Tuesday, April 6, 2010.

The April 13th Special Primary Election is being held for the purpose of filling the vacancy for the unexpired term ending November 30, 2010, in the 43rd State Assembly District resulting from the resignation of office by Assemblymember Paul Krekorian. If no candidate receives a majority of all votes cast (50% + 1) a Special General Election will be held on June 8, 2010.

REQUESTING A VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT

The State of California offers every registered voter an opportunity to cast a vote by mail.  Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan wants all voters to know that “the vote by mail process allows every voter to participate in the democratic process regardless of scheduling conflicts, accessibility issues or other reasons preventing a voter from making it to their polling place on Election Day.”  Vote by Mail ballots can be requested in one of the following ways:

        • Complete the Vote by Mail application on the back cover of the official sample ballot booklet; or
        • Submit an electronic request by visiting the RR/CC website at www.lavote.net and click on our Vote-by-Mail “Quick Link” located on the main page; or
        • Send a letter addressed to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, Vote by Mail Section, P.O. Box 30450, Los Angeles, CA  90030-0450; or
        • Apply in person at the RR/CC Office, 12400 Imperial Hwy., 3rd Floor, Room 3002, Norwalk, CA  90650.

Voters who request a Vote by Mail ballot can check on the status of their request using the RR/CC’s online look-up.  Visit www.lavote.net

and click on the Vote-by-Mail “Quick Link” located on the main page. You may also call the RR/CC at (562) 466-1323.

RETURNING YOUR VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT

In order to be counted, ballots cast by mail must be returned with sufficient time for mail delivery to the RR/CC by 8 p.m. on April 13 (the date on the postmark does not matter).  Vote by Mail ballots may also be returned in person to the RR/CC Headquarters, or delivered to any polling place in the district before the polls close at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.  A voter may authorize a designated family member to return the voted ballot to a polling place or to the RR/CC in accordance with the procedures outlined on the Vote by Mail ballot return envelope.

Under special circumstances, a voter may request an emergency Vote by Mail ballot from April 7 through April 13, by applying in person

or sending a designee to the RR/CC Headquarters, 12400 Imperial Hwy., Norwalk.  Additional information regarding this service or any

questions regarding Vote by Mail voting can be obtained by calling the RR/CC Vote by Mail Section at (562) 466-1323, between 8 a.m.
