Friday event: opening of children's waiting room at San Fernando Court

Free Children’s Waiting-Room Service

Opens Friday in San Fernando Court

 

Speakers at the San Fernando Courthouse’s child waiting-room grand opening ceremonies will be Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, North Valley Judicial District Supervising Judge Robert J. Schuit, and Stephen T. Holzer, president of the Valley Community Legal Foundation of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. 

 

The facility’s director and a teacher will supervise the children (ages 2 ½ to 13) while their parents or caregivers attend legal proceedings and conduct courthouse business. Its ground-floor location is adjacent to a Self-Help Legal Access Center and the cafeteria. The Children’s Creative Learning Center staff will operate the facility for up to 16 children between 8 a.m. to noon and 1:15 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

WHEN:      10 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010. 

 

The waiting room was established through contributions and cooperation from Supervisor Yaroslavsky’s Third District office, the Los Angeles Superior Court, the San Fernando Valley Bar Association and its Attorney Referral Service and the Valley Community Legal Foundation. 

 

The San Fernando Courthouse waiting room is the ninth in L.A. County.  Others are available in the following courthouses: Airport, Antelope Valley, Stanley Mosk, Compton, Long Beach, Pomona, Santa Monica and Van Nuys.  All waiting rooms are operated by professional child care providers and funded by $3 of every civil filing fee.
