MEDIA ADVISORY

Dependency Drug Court Program supports families seeking sobriety leading to safe and successful family reunification

What:

On Friday, March 5th, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Palmdale Office will host an open-house reception as part of L. A. County's week-long Family Reunification Week celebration. The Dependency Drug Court Program is being featured for its dramatic impact in ensuring child safety by focusing on healthy and sober parenting with a goal of family maintenance and reunification. The Dependency Drug Court Team includes a hearing officer, the DCFS Children's Social Worker (CSW) County Counsel, child's attorney, parent's attorney, and the substance abuse treatment provider. Parents are referred for substance abuse counseling and testing, domestic and family violence counseling, residential or non-residential treatment, and aftercare.  CSWs provide one-on one attention tailored to the specific needs of their clients. This program targets families in the Palmdale and Lancaster area.  In addition to DCFS administrators and program managers, Navid Daee, Program Director with the Tarzana Treatment Center will be on hand to discuss treatment services that facilitate family reunification. Families who have successfully reunified with their children, are participating in and have graduated from the program will share their experiences.
