Report scheduled on financial status of the Department of Health Services.  (Item S-1, 11 a.m.)

 

Update to be given on operation of Los Angeles County Medical Center. (Item S-2, 11:30 a.m.)

 

Supervisors Don Knabe and Mark Ridley-Thomas ask grant applications be submitted for trail development adjacent to George Washington Carver Park and along Compton Creek watershed; and Journey Into the Wild program at Deane Dana Friendship Park, Eaton Canyon Natural Area and Nature Center, and Whittier Narrows Recreational Area.  (Item 4)

 

Board asked to approve $59.89 million plan for repair and maintenance efforts on public health centers, community and senior centers, and other County facilities that have been neglected due to budget problems that began in early 1990s.  (Item 16)

 

$1 million in contracts would continue providing outside attorneys to staff the Office of Independent Review to monitor Sheriff and Probation departments. (Item 17)

 

$1 million proposal calls for leasing 3,465-square-foot space at Exposition Park to serve as environmental service center, constituent service center and Second District field office.  (Item 18)

 

Action would approve changes to Plaza de Cultura y Artes Project-- a development in downtown Los Angeles aimed at preserving and promoting the Mexican American culture -- to refocus the space on outdoor activities instead of indoor activities.  (Item 19)

 

Agreement would make improvements to Manhattan Beach Library and govern the way property taxes in the city are spent on the library.  (Item 21)

 

Report scheduled on the funding needs of the Probation Department to respond to issues raised by the federal Department of Justice.  (Item 24)

 

Report set on whether creating a panel of family law lawyers, paid a flat fee to serve as expert witnesses and investigators, would reduce costs of the Professional Appointee Court Expenditures System.  (Item 25)

 

Action would increase County’s $23.175 billion budget by $135.9 million to reflect fund balance that exceeded estimates when 2010-11 budget was adopted in June.  (Item 27)

 

Recommendations provided to spend the unallocated $135.9 million fund balance, with $74.7 million going for designated projects and $61.2 million for unrealized savings from labor negotiations.   (Item 31)

 

Supervisors in closed session consider appointing new director of health services. (Item CS-1)
