The media release below was issued today, February 16, 2010, at 4:45 p.m.

ADDITIONAL SECTIONS OF ANGELES FOREST ROADS TO REOPEN

TO RESTRICTED TRAFFIC

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has announced the re-opening of some additional sections of the Angeles Forest Highway and other connecting forest roads in wake of the recent storms that hit the area.

As of Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 5 p.m., the roads will reopen as a construction zone with access limited to residents, contractors, and emergency vehicles only.  This restriction is necessary to allow Public Works crews and vehicles to continue to clear plugged roadway culverts, inlets and roadway shoulders of mud and debris, and make necessary repairs to some of the roads.

The roads that will reopen are: Angeles Forest Highway – Aliso Canyon Road to one mile south of Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road, Big Tujunga Canyon Road – Vogel Flats Road to Angeles Forest Highway, Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road – Angeles Forest Highway to Angeles Crest Hwy
(SR-2 ), and Mt. Wilson Road – Angeles Crest Hwy (SR-2) to  Mt. Wilson Circle Road.

The roads remaining closed are: Angeles Forest Highway – One mile south of Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road to Big Tujunga Canyon Road, Angeles Forest Highway – Big Tujunga Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway (SR-2).

For updates on these and other forest road closures, motorists can visit the Coordinated Agency Recovery Effort (CARE) website at www.dpwcare.org.

Angeles Crest Highway (SR-2) remains closed except for the reach between Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Mt. Wilson Road, which will also be open to local residents, contractors, and emergency vehicles only.  For updates on Angeles Crest Highway, call (213) 897-3656, or visit www.dot.ca.gov/dist07.
