I-5 FREEWAY SCHEDULED FOR CLOSURES AS PART OF INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Motorists are advised that beginning next week, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works will implement a series of freeway closures for the I-5 Freeway both southbound and northbound near Hasley Canyon Road in the community of Castaic.

The closures are necessary as work continues on the $32 million Hasley Canyon Road – Interstate 5 Interchange Project.

The northbound I-5 Freeway is scheduled for full closure on Tuesday, February 23, from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. The detour for northbound  traffic will begin at Exit 126 West, continue south on Commerce Center Drive, east on Henry Mayo Drive, and north on The Old Road to the northbound I-5 on-ramp at Lake Hughes Road.

The southbound I-5 Freeway is scheduled for full closure on Wednesday, February 24, from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. The detour for southbound I-5 traffic will begin at the Lake Hughes off-ramp and continue south on The Old Road to the southbound I-5 on-ramp just north of Rye Canyon.

In addition to the overnight closures, the Hasley Canyon northbound off-ramp will be closed on Tuesday, February 23 at midnight and will remain closed for one week to allow for reconstruction of the ramp.

Message boards will be posted to guide motorists through the detours. California Highway Patrol officers will also be at the site to assist motorists further if necessary.

The interchange project is scheduled for completion in March, 2010. For more information on the project and the closures, visit the special project website at www.dpw.lacounty.gov/CONS/HASLEY.
