Parents in Partnership: Coaching parents to reunify with their children
Mothers who have been through Dependency Court are now helping others succeed
The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Belvedere Office will host an open-house reception as part of L.A. County's week-long Family Reunification Week celebration. DCFS staff and community partners will celebrate with families that have successfully and safely reunified with their children.
Also in attendance sharing their stories will be Parents in Partnership (PIP), parents with former DCFS cases who provide support and guidance to parents whose children have been removed from their care. These parent coaches draw on their own experiences to help parents make informed choices regarding their children and better understand the Dependency Court process.
Maria Santos, raised in East Los Angeles, was in foster care as a child and had her own children removed as an adult mother. She successfully reunified with her children and today is helping other mothers do the same.
There will be six PIP mothers available to discuss their experiences and how they are helping other parents overcome their problems to reunify with their children.
