Moon walking with Buzz Aldrin

How do you come down from the greatest high man has ever achieved? The same way you got up there, In a rocket! In 1969 when Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and everyone that could be watching was. Forty years later the nation seems to have lost it’s penchant for space travel and some are asking, would it do us good to get it back? Will mankind ever reach the Red Planet? One of the only people to have ever set foot on the moon is here in studio to talk about NASA, Mars, and to discuss his book, MAGNIFICENT DESOLATION: The Long Journey Home from the Moon. Would you like to yell at the moon with Buzz Aldrin?

The Democratic race for Lieutenant Governor

It’s usually not an elected office that is associated with fierce political campaigns, especially not during the intra-party primaries.  Yet that is exactly the case with this year’s race for the Democratic nomination for California’s Lieutenant Governor, which has evolved into a classic Northern vs. Southern California contest pitting two accomplished and ambitious politicians against one another in an unusually competitive primary.  Gavin Newsom is the controversial mayor of San Francisco who has made his fair share of enemies and diehard supporters—he’s been a trailblazer on gay rights (gay marriage in particular) and has skillfully managed San Francisco’s homeless epidemic, yet the City still finds itself several hundred millions dollars in debt.  Janice Hahn is a longtime L.A. City Councilwoman from an L.A. political dynasty who has championed the economic and environmental development of the vital L.A. harbor, but who also finds herself battling a massive budget deficit for Los Angeles.  What would these two candidates do with the high profile but policy-influence-lacking office of “Guv-lite?”

All eyes on South Africa: World Cup 2010

The tension is building to a climax as the world focuses its attention on the largest sporting event in the world. The 2010 FIFA World Cup is set to begin action this week, the storylines are unfolding as per usual any large sporting event. But the real story might be that of the host country and its people, 16 years removed from a vicious system of racial segregation, South Africa is hosting the World Cup. But with the good comes the bad, many South African’s think that FIFA has ravaged the nationalism of the games, with the mascot being made in China, the theme song from Colombian pop star Shakira and the official restaurant being Mcdonald’s. Add on to that ticket issues that don’t allow for a large number of South African’s to attend the games, and you have a host city that feels forgotten. Patt finds out how the locals feel about the games, and how FIFA has done in including their wishes.
