Carver Park Youth Soccer Team “FC Barcelona” from Watts/Willowbrook honored for winning the Memorial Day 2008 Dannon Invitational Cup Championship, and representing the United States at the upcoming Danone Nations Cup Competition in Paris, France on Sept. 4.

 

LAPD officer Mike Williams and good Samaritans Charles Sternberg of Stevenson Ranch and Aftab Husain of Porter Ranch honored for their courage/heroism for subduing a shooter at the annual St. John the Baptist De La Salle Church carnival on May 17.

 

Proposal calls for loaning $3.9 million to developer to construct 105^th Street and Normandie Senior Housing Project and the Downtown Women’s Center Project in Los Angeles, using housing redevelopment funds from City of Industry.  (Item 1-H, cont. from 7/1)

 

Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke proposes $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the murder of James Hurst at Ted Watkins Park near Watts on July 5.   (Item 2)

 

Supervisor Don Knabe requests report on possible adverse effects of using a cell phone or Internet provider-based phone service when calling 9-1-1 as compared to using a land line phone.  (Item 5)

 

$350,000 proposal would fund additional construction of lobby and 17 rooms as part of the MacLaren Hall Satellite Medical Hub Refurbishment Project in El Monte to accommodate foster children with health and mental health needs,  upping total budget to $600,000.   (Item 9, cont. from 7/8)

 

Acceptance of $6.2 million grant would fund programs to protect key chemical-related infrastructures/resource sites in the county from threats and acts of terrorism.  (Item 10)

 

$75 million maximum contractor agreement recommended for automated welfare job activity and reporting system.  (Item 18)

 

$14.1 million agreements would assist hospitals impacted by closure of King-Harbor Hospital.   (Items 19, 20)

 

Supervisors asked to amend Marina del Rey lease involving Yacht Club Parcel 20 to reflect various changes in circumstance since lease was extended 39 years in 2004.  (Item 22)

 

Proposed 60-year lease would allow for construction of mixed-use 114-unit senior housing development in Marina del Rey at estimated cost of $29 million.   (Item 23)

 

Board approval sought to extend lease for Parcel 21 in Marina del Rey for 39 years, facilitating the construction of new commercial building, parking structure, new docks and waterfront promenade at estimated cost of $13 million.   (Item 24)

 

Compton, Inglewood, Palmdale and Torrance would be added to program that assists recycling- based manufacturing businesses in effort to reduce solid waste.  (Item 27)

 

Supervisors asked to adopt final plans/specifications for the proposed $49.4 million Olive View-UCLA Medical Center Emergency Room Replacement/Tuberculosis Unit project, approve $1 million contract to purchase steel at current market rate to avoid cost increases/construction delays, and set Sept. 11 for project bid opening.   (Item 28)

 

Two-year $1 million advertising contract proposed to continue campaign to promote recycling of used motor oil and filters.  (Item 29)

 

$310,500 proposal would fund construction of the Adventure Park New Walking Path and Par Course project in Whittier.  (Item 30)

 

Board asked to approve $3.8 million to replace badly deteriorated fire camp dormitories built in 1940s in the Santa Monica Mountains that house 112 inmates. (Item 33)
