REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK RESUMES

 REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS

Acting Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) Dean Logan announced today that RR/CC headquarters located in Norwalk and most district offices have returned to their regularly scheduled hours for providing marriage license and civil marriage ceremony services.  Logan said, “We anticipated an increase in customers seeking marriage licenses and ceremonies in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling authorizing same sex couples to marry.  The number of couples, while still high, is returning to levels where it is no longer necessary to offer expand service.  We are happy that we were able serve all of our customers efficiently and with respect.”

Expanded service is still offered at West Hollywood City Hall where customers can visit to apply for marriage licenses and request ceremonies on Thursdays from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.   All other district office facilities remain open weekdays for licenses and offer civil marriage ceremonies once a week by appointment.

Beginning June 17, when the RR/CC began issuing same sex marriage licenses, and continuing through June 27, the RR/CC issued 2,665 marriage licenses and volunteers conducted 1,131 civil marriage ceremonies.  This represents 41 percent of all marriage licenses issued and 74 percent of all marriage ceremonies performed for the entire month of June.

The RR/CC issued approximately 10 percent more licenses and conducted 30 percent more ceremonies than it did in June of 2007.

Prior to the implementation of same-sex marriage licensing, the average number of licenses issued per day during the month of June was 194 per day.  During the month of June 2008, this number increased to 206 per day.
