Sheriff's Youth Foundation -- event is Saturday

Press Advisory:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Youth Foundation gets some Giddy Up!

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Youth Foundation started in 1985 and is operated by deputy sheriffs.  Also called YAL, the Youth Activities League currently has 14 locations in Los Angeles County where youths can escape the influences of the street.  Currently, the YAL serves 2,500 kids each year with an emphasis on academics & tutoring.  The YAL program also reaches out to “at risk” youth throughout Los Angeles County by offering alternative activities.  With success stories such as kids growing up and pursuing a career in law enforcement; this program truly makes a difference.

The YAL and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Posse have teamed up and created a special reward program.  This program mentors youth through an opportunity to learn about horses in both a classroom setting and a special day with the horses.  These youth will have the chance to learn about the 150 year old tradition of law enforcement and the Mounted Posse.  This program also provides positive relationships between law enforcement, the youth and their community.

This exciting event for the YAL and the Posse will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Ernie Howlett Park (25851 Hawthorne Bl., Rolling Hills Estates) from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.  Please join us for the day of festivities, as it is our hope that through the dedication of the Sheriff’s Department and the spirit of the horse, we can all make a difference.

For more information or directions to the park, please contact Sgt. Dave Rozas at 310-891-3227 or Reserve Captain Juanna Lamb at 310 345 3796.
