D.A. warns against foreclosure rescue scams

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley today issued a consumer alert for Los Angeles County homeowners facing foreclosure.

The District Attorney advises homeowners to be on alert for foreclosure rescue scammers who bait victims with too-good-to-be-true refinance plans.

"If you own a home, beware of con artists trying to swindle you during the foreclosure crisis," the District Attorney said. "These scams promise you miracle refinance plans, but they may steal your money, your home and your hope."

The consumer alert, which features free foreclosure assistance resources, may be viewed at http://da.lacounty.gov/consumeralert .

On that same Web page, there is a link to a new video public service announcement (PSA) on foreclosure fraud that was produced by the District Attorney's Office and the Los Angeles County Channel. The PSA will air on public access channels in Los Angeles County.
