Funeral services Set for Charles “Chuck” Bookhammer, former Hawthorne Councilmember

and Assistant Chief Deputy to former Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke

 

LOS ANGELES -- Funeral services will take place on Wednesday October 21 at 11:30 a.m. for Charles “Chuck” Bookhammer, former long-time Hawthorne City Councilmember and Assistant Chief Deputy to former Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke for 16 years.

Bookhammer, 61, passed on Thursday, Oct. 15, from complications following a recent surgery.  

 

After Burke retired in December, 2008, Bookhammer worked for the County’s Community Development Commission until his retirement in June this year. he He also worked part time as a consultant with the Los Angeles County Board of Realtors.

 

Bookhammer was a proud Viet Nam veteran who served from 1965-1969 and was awarded a Purple Heart by the US Navy. 

 

An advent Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and golf player, Bookhammer touched many lives and was respected and admired by peers and loved by his County family.  He his wife had just purchased their dream home in Mission Viejo and was looking forward to enjoying his retirement.   

 

“At work, Chuck was probably one of the best persons in the political field that could deal with all types of situations and all problems,” said John Hill, Bookhammer’s friend and former colleague on Burke’s staff.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 40 years Barbara, his loving daughters Michelle, Jennifer, Brandi and Tracy Rose and seven grandchildren.
