Public Workshops to address

potential off-highway vehicle parks in la county

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting a second round of public workshops for the LA County Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Dialogue this October. Environmentalists, OHV enthusiasts, resource agencies, recreation advocates, and community leaders will discuss where new OHV parks might be appropriate in the County of Los Angeles. The public workshops will be conducted in four locations: Rowland Heights, Azusa, Castaic, and Little Rock. Workshop dates and addresses are listed at the bottom and posted on www.lacounty-ohv.org.

The LA County OHV Dialogue is a process designed to build consensus on planning guidelines for future potential OHV park locations, taking into consideration the diversity of OHV recreation types and facility requirements. Over 130,000 County residents own registered off-road motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, 4-wheel drive vehicles, and dune buggies. The outcomes of this project will help to address the recreation needs of this significant segment of the County’s population while proactively managing the location and effects of OHV activity.

The focus of this second round of public workshops is the Draft OHV Park Planning Guidelines. This document provides a draft decision-making framework for the County of Los Angeles for identifying, evaluating, and planning new OHV parks. The OHV Park Planning Guidelines proactively address the diverse challenges and opportunities related to OHV recreation planning in the County in order to successfully implement feasible park projects.

The Draft OHV Park Planning Guidelines are posted at www.lacounty-ohv.org. The website also contains a baseline assessment, summary of the first workshop series, and an introduction to the project’s advisory committee who helped to formulate the Draft OHV Park Planning Guidelines.
