MUSIC CENTER OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF
HOWARD SHERMAN TO EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
October 15, 2009 (Los Angeles) - The Music Center/Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County announced today the appointment of Howard Sherman to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. The appointment officially begins on October 19, 2009.
“In these difficult times it is critical that, as President, I concentrate on financial and funding issues.” States Stephen D. Rountree, Music Center President and CEO. “As Chief Operating Officer, Howard Sherman will assure that our programs and operations get active and effective management while I work on fundraising and strategic issues.” Rountree continues, “Howard has demonstrated a tremendous capacity to manage and lead effectively. He has earned the respect and support of his colleagues at the Music Center, the County and around the country."
Sherman’s responsibilities will include the daily operations of the Music Center, its venues and programs. Prior to this appointment, he served as Vice President of Operations for the Music Center and was responsible for an annual budget of over $20 million. He has been an integral part of the Music Center since his arrival in 1986 and has led the Operations Department since 2000. Under his leadership, the operations team doubled in size and budget in preparation for the successful opening of the Music Center’s fourth venue, the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall. In addition, Sherman supervised the architectural and construction teams for the renovation of the Mark Taper Forum.
