STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS TO JOIN CHILDREN FROM
SOUTH LOS ANGELES TO DROP, COVER AND HOLD ON AT
CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER’S SHAKEOUT DRILL – OCT. 15
WHAT: 100 fourth grade students from Lenicia B. Weems Elementary School will join millions of Californians in participating in the largest earthquake preparedness drill in U.S. history, “The Great California ShakeOut.” Following the Drop, Cover and Hold On drill, invited guest speakers listed below will provide brief comments. Additionally, ShakeOut organizers and other officials will be available for interviews. Ready America’s SHAKER earthquake simulator will be available to media as early as 5 a.m.

SCHEDULE: 5-9:45 a.m.: SHAKER is available for live or taped interviews
9:45-10:15 a.m.: Students engaged in earthquake education activities
10:15-10:18 a.m.: Drop, Cover, and Hold On drill with all present
10:20-10:35 a.m.: Comments from invited guests
10:35-11:30 a.m.: One-on-One interview opportunities. Students (L.A. County Fire Department’s “Yogi Bear Shakey Quakey Schoolhouse”) and adults (SHAKER) participate in earthquake simulators
