Dedication of Dockweiler Youth Center

NEW DOCKWEILER YOUTH CENTER CEREMONY SET

 

            PLAYA DEL REY, CALIF. – October 15, 2009 – A dedication ceremony is scheduled for October 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the recently constructed Dockweiler Youth Center, located at Dockweiler State Beach, 12505 Vista del Mar, Playa del Rey.  Los Angeles County Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe, whose unwavering support and commitment to the project, will be on hand to officially dedicate the new community center.

The new 8,800 square foot community Youth Center consists of a 3,000 square foot room that will be used for meetings and will be available for rental by the public, as well as an outdoor patio with an ocean view.

A three station administration area will be utilized by Beaches and Harbors staff that will be operating the day to day operations of the facility.  The Water Awareness, Training, Education and Recreation (W.A.T.E.R.) Program will use the brand new facility for its established activities and camps that bring youth from all over Los Angeles County to the beach where they participate in aquatic sports including surfing, sailing, body boarding and kayaking.

The Dockweiler Youth Center will also be used as a recreational facility with the implementation of recreational programming consisting of eco beach walks, arts and crafts for children, yoga, dance and cooking classes and shore fishing.
