Barcelona elected chairman of Economy and Efficiency Committee (Palmdale local angle)

COMMISSIONER ISAAC D. BARCELONA HAS BEEN ELECTED AS CHAIRMAN OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY CITIZENS’ ECONOMY AND EFFICIENCY COMMISSION

 

At its January 2009 meeting, the Los Angeles County Citizens’ Economy and Efficiency Commission (Commission) recognized the role and contribution of Mr. Isaac D, Barcelona to the Commission by electing him as Chairman of the Commission.

 

In accepting his election as chair Mr. Barcelona recognized the contributions that have been made by the Commission throughout the years and remarked, "The Economy & Efficiency Commission is at the forefront of government reform and service.   The members of this commission represent the very best of our communities and they are all dedicated to one common goal and proposition, to serve the citizens of Los Angeles County and improve the functions of government for the benefit of all.   I am honored and humbled by this charge and I will proudly pursue and try to emulate the standards of excellence and leadership exemplified by past Chairs."

 

On March 6, 2001 Mr. Isaac Diaz Barcelona was nominated by Supervisor Antonovich and approved by the Board of Supervisors to be a commissioner on the Economy and Efficiency Commission.  Mr. Barcelona is currently a District Representative for Assemblyman Steve Knight, 36th Assembly District and President & CEO of Barcelona Consulting, Entertainment & Productions Group.  He was the former President & CEO of the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce and served as Public Relations Director for the Palmdale School District until 2003.  Mr. Barcelona is also the Co-Founder and past President of the Antelope Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce from 1997-2000, and is the 2009 Director of Public Relations.  Mr. Barcelona has toured and performed as an entertainer, writer, musician and producer for 28 years and has published weekly columnist for past 18 years in major English & Spanish newspapers and magazines.  He was the editor, writer, co-producer & host of “Shaping the Future”, a weekly television and radio program on Adelphia Communications and High Desert Broadcasting.  Mr. Barcelona was listed in Who’s Who ’89, ’93, and ’94.  Mr. Barcelona is married to Shawny, has  six children, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter!

 

The Economy and Efficiency Commission has twenty-one members. Each of the five members of the Board of Supervisors appoints four commissioners to the Commission for a two-year term which may be extended by reappointment. The previous year's Grand Jury Foreperson is appointed by the Board as the Commission's 21st member. Created in 1964, the Commission is charged with reviewing all aspects of local government management, operations and policies. It submits recommendations directly to the Board of Supervisors with the objective of improving the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of local government. The members of the Commission offer their time to the County on a voluntary basis and serve without pay.
