GLORIA MOLINA STATEMENT ON SUCCESSFUL
PROGRESS IN MLK-HARBOR HOSPITAL MACC

Molina Supports Full Release of $33 Million Back to MLK-Harbor MACC

LOS ANGELES (January 27, 2009)—Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina released the following statement regarding the Board of Supervisors’ unanimous decision today to return $33 million back to the Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center (MACC) at the Martin Luther King-Harbor medical facility:

“Back when I authored the motion to withhold this funding in June 2008, the MLK MACC was in a very different place than it is now.  Visits were at 120,000 per year even though they were budgeted at 150,000 visits.  The cost of running the MLK MACC was $300 higher per visit than other MACCs in the county.  By increasing clinic hours and capacity at the MLK MACC, visits are now expected to exceed 176,000 per year.  By bringing staffing down to appropriate levels, the cost of operating the MLK MACC is now comparable to other county MACCs.  We have come a long way since my June motion and I gladly support returning these dollars to the MLK MACC.”
