The Animal Inside of You—and How It’s Affecting the Economy!

Nowadays it seems people are looking to experts, tea leaves, anything to help explain the economic crisis and, more importantly, how to get us out of it. Even Nobel prize-winning economist George Akerlof and renowned economist Robert Shiller think finding the answer requires searching beyond their field. Their new book Animal Spirits explains how our psychology affects our behavior. Greedy mortgage brokers taking advantage of people; placing blind faith in the market; panic selling; poor consumer confidence—all of these are "animal spirits," and they move the economy in irrational ways. But, the authors explain, they don't have to, and a revival of positive animal spirits are just what we need to wrest our economy back on track.

Guests:

George Akerlof and Robert Shiller, authors of Animal Spirits: How Human Psychology Drives the Economy, and Why It Matters for Global Capitalism
