Board presents scroll to musician Nathaniel Ayers, whose mental illness struggles have been chronicled by L.A. Times columnist Steve Lopez and the subject of the movie “The Soloist,” for his participation in the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act at the White House.
Report to be given on issues related to the transition of the new Los Angeles County Medical Center. (Item S-1, 11 a.m.) RECEIVED AND FILED
Transfer of $7.75 million from City of Pico Rivera would complete funding of new $16 million library being jointly financed by city and the County. (Item 1-D) APPROVED
Supervisors asked to approve transferring $21 million from 2009-10 administration budget of the Department of Public Social Services to cover a deficit in General Relief. (Item 4) APPROVED
Action would allow Marina del Rey lease to be extended by 33 years to facilitate renovation of the Tahiti Marina Apartments and Docks. (Item 11) APPROVED
Extension of lease would allow Wishtoyo Foundation to continue operating the Chumash Discovery Center and restoring the creek at Nicholas Canyon Beach. (Item 12) APPROVED
Two projects totaling $1.3 million proposed for William S. Hart Museum to repair access road that has been damaged by years of insufficient draining and erosion, and to repair roofs and areas damaged by water leaking through the deteriorated roofs. (Items 14, 15) APPROVED
Recommendations calls for 2 percent increase in the County Library special tax. (Item 16) APPROVED
$2.5 million proposal would fund rehabilitation of the Marina del Rey Tidegate facility to prevent flooding in the Ballona Lagoon/Grand Canal area. (Item 17, cont. from 7/13) APPROVED
$13 million budget proposed for pool project at Castaic Sports Complex. (Item 22) APPROVED
Supervisors asked to approve estimated $12.56 million project at Alondra Park in El Camino Village that would include pool, water play area, and skate park. (Item 24) APPROVED
Board meets in closed session to provide instructions to County real estate negotiators regarding the Grand Avenue project in downtown Los Angeles. (Item CS-1) CEO CONT. TO 7/27
Review requested of incident at Arcadia County Park pool on July 19 in which swimmers were evacuated after equipment malfunction caused release of liquid chlorine. (Motion introduced at meeting.) APPROVED
Responding to discovery in Santa Clarita Valley of dead bird that tested positive for West Nile virus, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich asks that County agencies investigate and clear open waterways that harbor mosquito breeding sites, exterminate active breeding areas and educate the public on West Nile virus prevention. (Motion introduced at meeting.) APPROVED
