Narrative

Palmdale Deputies responded to a baby not breathing, accidental drowning call, last night near the 38600 block of Palms Place, in the City of Palmdale.

When deputies arrived they learned that a two year old at the location had slipped away from their mother and entered the rear yard of the residence before falling into an in ground pool.  The family of the victim found the child minutes after they had fallen into the pool, but by that time the child had no pulse and was not breathing.

Family members began CPR on the child until Deputies Gregory Flores and Christopher Crotty arrived and assumed CPR from the family.  The two deputies continued to perform CPR on the child along with Deputy Bridgette Smith, an Army medic, until paramedics could arrived and transport the child.

Several units from the Palmdale Station were then coordinated by Deputy Flores to close off key intersections to aid in escorting the ambulance to an awaiting helicopter to transport the victim.

The child was flown to Antelope Valley Hospital and later transferred to Loma Linda PICU where as of this release the child is listed in stable condition but still on a breathing respirator.
