Lynwood recognized for receiving the National Civic League’s All-America City Award at the annual competition in Kansas City, Mo.

 

Proposal calls for County to administer federal block grant program for urban renewal and public assistance housing for Avalon and Torrance beginning in July 2011.  (Item 1-D) APPROVED

 

Action would allow 215 Section 8 housing vouchers for City of Lakewood residents to be used anywhere within the County’s jurisdiction.  (Item 3-H)    APPROVED

 

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich requests ordinance to ban all medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of the County. (Item 2) APPROVED AS AMENDED BY RIDLEY-THOMAS AND YAROSLAVSKY;  INCLUDING PROPOSED ORDINANCE CONTAIN PROVISION THAT THE CURRENT REGULATIONS REMAIN IN EFFECT IF THE COURT DETERMINES THAT A BAN IS ILLEGAL, AND THAT REGIONAL PLANNING DEPARTMENT EXAMINE WAYS THAT ENFORCEMENT COULD BE EXPEDITED WHEN DISPENSARIES OPEN ILLEGALLY

 

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas requests acceptance of $41,000 grant to fund basketball and soccer activities during the “Parks After Dark” program at Ted Watkins, Pamela, and Franklin D. Roosevelt parks. (Item 5) APPROVED

 

Support requested for federal funding to repair runway at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos to give the region a fully functioning airfield during an emergency crisis. Item 6) APPROVED

 

Board asked to approve distribution of $10,000 reward to individuals who provided information that led to the arrest and conviction of Andre Thompson, who was responsible for the hit-and- run death of Semaj Spencer in Inglewood on Aug. 2, 2009.   (Item 8) APPROVED

 

$3.8 million proposal would fund the Arts Commission grant program for FY 2010-11 to support concerts, theater productions and education programs countywide.   (Item 9) APPROVED 3-2 AS AMENDED BY ANTONOVICH AND RIDLEY-THOMAS TO RESTORE $731,000 TO INTERN GRANTS AND CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS;  KNABE AND MOLINA OPPOSED

 

Action would declare official the results for the 43rd State Assembly District Election, and the Statewide Direct Primary Election, both held on June 8.  (Items 14, cont. from 6/29, and 15) APPROVED

 

$25.2 million proposal would fund multi-County departmental pilot project designed to assist foster youth transition from group homes to permanent homes more quickly. (Item 18) APPROVED

 

Beaches and Harbors recommends Tahiti Marina Apartments and Marina lease extension and renovation project proposal be referred back to the department.  (Item 22) REFERRED BACK TO BEACHES AND HARBORS DEPARTMENT

 

Board asked to approve lease extension agreement in Marina del Rey extending dock replacement deadlines.  (Items 23) APPROVED

 

Recommendation calls for awarding $15 million for project/construction management services for the inpatient tower renovation and the new multi-service ambulatory care center/ancillary building projects at MLK Medical Center.  (Item 29, cont. from 6/15, /622) APPROVED

 

Proposal would allow developer to build homes on area set aside for riding and hiking trail in Arcadia in exchange for new easement for existing trail maintained by the County.  (Item 33) APPROVED

 

$300,000 settlement proposed for employee Leamon Scott concerning allegations that he was subjected to employment discrimination at the Department of Community and Senior Services. (Item 42, cont. from 6/29)  COMMUNITY AND SENIOR SERVICES CONT. TO 7/13

 

Supervisors Don Knabe and Zev Yaroslavsky propose creation of task force to identify extent of public health concerns associated with rave parties and to make recommendations to enhance safety at the events.  (Item 48-A)  APPROVED

 

Board asked to approve agreements allowing Sheriff’s Department to provide policing services to Cudahy and Maywood. (Items 48-B, 48-C)  APPROVED

 

Board meets in closed session to provide instructions to County real estate negotiators regarding the Grand Avenue project in downtown Los Angeles.  (Item CS-2)

 

Supervisors in closed session discuss lawsuit arising out of claims of retaliation by Sheriff’s Department employee Sgt. Patrick Gomez.  (Item CS-3)
