PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

County Office of Education and community-based organizations will provide details of their specific programs.

The Los Angeles County Probation Department is the largest and oldest probation services agency in the nation.  Out of the approximately 20,000 juveniles currently on probation in Los Angeles County, close to 3,000 juveniles are incarcerated in juvenile detention facilities throughout the County---three are juvenile halls: Central; Barry J. Nidorf (Sylmar); and Los Padrinos (Downey).

Central Juvenile Hall, the oldest of the three halls, first opened its doors in 1912.  The 22-acre facility, located in Downtown L.A., adjacent to County USC Medical Center, offers specialized living units to accommodate the physical, mental, medical and behavioral needs of incarcerated minors.
