KNABE NAMES CHERYL BURNETT COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

LOS ANGELES, November 10, 2010 – Supervisor Don Knabe is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Burnett as Communications Director for the Fourth District.

Prior to joining the Fourth District staff, Burnett worked for the City of Beverly Hills as its Public Relations Manager, gaining a broad overview of the inner workings of city government.  Before moving into the public sector, she worked in multinational corporations, including Toyota, BP, Universal Studios and Kaizo, a communications consultancy based in London.  At these organizations, she led strategic communication programs, managed high-profile issues, coordinated stakeholder management teams and served as the spokesperson in crisis situations.

Burnett has been active in several LA County based non-profits, addressing education, literacy and environmental issues.  She served as the Board Chair for Access Books in Los Angeles and Operation Jump Start in Long Beach.  A long-time supporter of the SAGE Center at Nickerson Gardens, Burnett was also a mentor for the Fulfillment Fund.  She is a representative on the Westchester/Playa del Rey Neighborhood Council, where she is Vice Chair of the Education Committee, and a volunteer for grassroots efforts to preserve the Ballona Wetlands.

“I am excited to have Cheryl join our staff,” said Knabe. “Her experience in public affairs and expertise in communications strategy, and media and community relations will be a wonderful asset to our office and to the entire Fourth District.”

Burnett holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, a Master’s Degree in English from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and English from Lafayette College.  She participated in Leadership LA and the Industry and Parliament Trust in London.  Burnett is a resident of Playa del Rey in the Fourth District.
