Green my ride: shopping guide to buying your clean, mean, fuel efficient machine

The L.A. Auto Show has driven into town with the usual displays of decadently appointed luxury cars, exotic foreign sports cars and good-old-fashioned American muscle cars.  But the true stars of this auto show are the “green” cars, from advanced hybrids to all electric cars and even hydrogen-fueled cars, there are more options on the market for the environmentally-conscientious consumer than ever before.  Car companies have seemingly embraced the clean car revolution, with all electric cars like the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf leading the way, but along with the changing fuel platforms (from gasoline to electricity) comes a different set of standards—how can you gauge miles per gallon for a car that doesn’t consume gallons of anything?  If you’re interested in buying a car with very low carbon emissions, how can you trust the manufacturers’ data on how much greenhouse gasses are given off?  Join us on this information ride through the green car landscape so you can shop green with confidence.

Amy Sedaris’ brings you back to simpler times

Amy Sedaris can probably make you laugh, but did you know she can make you a tea cozy? Well – maybe she can’t, but she’s written a book about craft-making for you anyway! Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People has a little bit for everyone. With chapters like “Unreturnable Gift Giving,” “The Joy of Poverty,” and “Sausages,” Sedaris offers readers and crafters alike some off-the-wall, but very humorous, crafts, ideas, recipes, and a way to get back to simpler times “when we wore hand-made sweaters” and “carved our cooking utensils out of bark.” If you’re a serious crafter, you might want to look elsewhere, but if you’re just in it for a good laugh, Simple Times is the craft book for you.

Guest:

Amy Sedaris, actress, comedian, and author of I Like You: Hospitality Under The Influence
