ANTONOVICH AND YAROSLAVSKY DECLARE
STATE OF EMERGENCY IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY
Supervisors Call for Property Tax Relief, One-Stop Permitting
Mortgage Payment Deferral and Housing Vouchers for Fire Victims
LOS ANGELES COUNTY – To ensure that State and Federal financial resources are available to serve County residents impacted by the Marek and Sesnon fires, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion by Supervisors Michael D. Antonovich and Zev Yaroslavsky proclaiming a state of emergency in Los Angeles County.
An additional motion by Supervisors Antonovich and Yaroslavsky asking County agencies and financial institutions to provide assistance to property owners whose homes were damaged or destroyed, was also unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors.
To provide tax relief, the motion requests the County Assessor develop concessions for property owners including extending deadlines for upcoming property tax payments. The Departments of Regional Planning and Public Works will establish one-stop permitting centers in areas impacted by the recent fires, and expedite the issuance of building permits.
The Board of Supervisors will also send a five-signature letter asking major lending institutions, banks and finance companies to re-schedule mortgage payments to provide relief for residents who have suffered fire-related damage.
The motion also directs the CEO to work with the Acting Director of the Housing Authority to issue emergency Section 8 Housing Vouchers for eligible residents (those with an income below 50% of Area Median Income) in the Sky Terrace Mobile Home Park in Lopez Canyon who lost their homes in the Marek Fire.
