Proposition 6

Proposition 6, known as the “Safe Neighborhoods Act” to those who favor the plan, asks voters to approve an extra $365 million from the state’s general fund for police and jails to enforce tougher crime penalties for crimes like like gang violence. Independent analysts say the price tag may actually be higher: $500 million a year. Prop. 6’s proponents say that increased gang crime calls for tougher enforcement. Those who oppose Prop. 6 see an overly bureaucratic structure and high cost (for which the measure defines no source of funding) among reasons to vote it down.

Guests:

Cyn (KYNE) Yamashiro, Professor at Loyola Law School and Spokesman for No on 6 campaign.

Beckham Bends It to AC Milan

After all of the hype and all of the money (a 5-year, $250 million contract to be exact) David Beckham may ultimately have listed a little over one year in Los Angeles.  The L.A. Galaxy midfielder is all but certain to be “loaned” to Italian premiere league team AC Milan for the winter, once the Galaxy concludes its underachieving ’08 season.  While a loan would be temporary, there is widespread belief in Europe that the arrangement could turn into an outright trade, meaning Beckham’s days in L.A. are numbered.  It’s been a disappointing season-and-a-half with the Galaxy—if even a great superstar like David Beckham can’t make soccer popular in the U.S., can anyone?
