Los Angeles County Park and Recreation’s C.S.I. Teen Camp honored by Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke at October 22nd Board Meeting

Los Angeles, CA – The California State Association of Counties (C.S.A.C) honored the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation’s C.S.I. Teen Camp during the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke presented the Department of Parks and Recreation South Community Services Agency with the C.S.A.C. Challenge Award.  The statewide award honors innovative programs in county government. The C.S.I. Teen Camp was chosen from 255 entries.

The Crime Scene Investigation Camp is a six week summer program for teens ages 13-17.  The camp is a partnership between the Department of Parks and Recreation and several Los Angeles County law enforcement departments including the County Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Sheriff Department and the Los Angeles School Police.  The camp exposes youth to the many career options in law enforcement through field trips and hands on workshops.

The program was initiated in 2006 at Ted Watkins Park and has since expanded to two other Second District parks which include Roy Campanella Park and Enterprise Park serving approximately 75 South Los Angeles teens. The camp was recently awarded the National Association of Counties 2008 Award and the 2007 County of Los Angeles Productivity and Quality Award.
