L.A. City Hall Takeover Slate Forming?

L.A. City Hall Takeover Slate Forming?

Man, the news just keeps getting better and better!

Today I attended the City Clerk's orientation session for people thinking of running for office in the March 3, 2009 election, and I met not one, not two, not three but four supporters who are seriously considering running for City Council. Isn't that great?

Can you imagine if we replaced four City Council incumbents with good candidates -- candidates who protect taxpaying American citizens instead of illegal aliens, developers and gangs?

But why stop at four? Eight of the 15 City Council seats will be up for grabs in the March 2009 election. In other words, we could obtain a controlling majority.

Please consider running, or urging someone you know to do so. The City Clerk will conduct one more orientation session at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at the same place: Piper Technical Center - Election Division Office, 555 Ramirez Street Space 300, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Why not skip cartoons that morning and attend the session instead?

In the meantime, visit the City Ethics Commission's website, or call their very helpful staff, to set up an official election committee so you can collect and spend money to promote your campaign. They have a very helpful booklet on how to do it. The City Clerk's office also has a handy pamphlet on deadlines, etc.

Assuming your platform is consistent with mine, I will help promote your campaign. We can form a slate of like-minded candidates to fix this city, and leverage the attention my campaign gets to inform the public about your campaign. People in districts throughout the City could download the slate from my website, so they know who's on our team on election day.

Before you tell yourself you're not qualified, ask yourself this question: Do you really feel outclassed by the people already serving on the City Council? Do you seriously think you could do a worse job? You, at least, know the difference between right and wrong. You've got common sense. And you have lived in the real world, working for a living.

So if you or someone you know lives in any odd-numbered City Council District, get going, would you? Also, we need an attorney who has been licensed for at least five years to run for City Attorney. Finally, if you have any background at all in accounting or running a business, or maybe a degree in public finance, please consider running for City Controller. None of the current candidates for those two offices opposes Special Order 40.

You can win. The tremendous enthusiasm of the crowd at our last rally told me that people are fed up with City Hall, and they're ready to take action. They just need someone decent to support.

Nor do you need millions of votes to win. If someone had run against City Council Member Cardenas in the last election, they could have beat him with just 3,625 votes.

So what are you waiting for? Join me as a candidate, won't you? Let's make a great slate, and fix this City.
