COUNTY IMPOSES RESIDENCY AND LOITERING RESTRICTIONS
ON REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS
LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Supervisor Antonovich’s motion to impose stringent residency and loitering restrictions on registered sex offenders in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
“The additional restrictions will strengthen those mandated by the State of California. Reducing the potential dangers associated with multiple registered sex offenders living near families and places where children frequently gather is our priority,” said Antonovich.
A strong advocate of placing public safety above pseudo-rights of sex predators, Antonovich initiated the County’s innovative on-line Sex Offender Locator Map in 2002 to empower citizens to see if sex offenders are living in their communities. The website’s success led to its use as the model for the State’s Megan’s Law website, which can be viewed at http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/.
There are approximately 1,438 registered sex offenders in the unincorporated areas of the County, 397 of these registered sex offenders are on parole.

If he was really interested in public safety, he would not have advocated a law banishing people from his town no matter how undesirable. Residency restrictions do nothing but increase a false sense of security while driving Former Offenders to homelessnes, and a few more simply quit registering. There is a reason why Iowa is trying to repeal residency restrictions, Kansas barred them altogether, and courts in many states are starting to strike these laws down. And how does this law address the sex crimes committed by those not on the registry?

Just more boasting to the sheeple to get brownie points and to look tough on crime.
We will never solve the abuse problem, until people get smart on crime, and listen to the experts, who have said over and over and over that nothing about these laws will prevent abuse, they are just additional (unconstitutional) punishment, to make sex offenders their scapegoats for votes.
We need to be working on PREVENTING abuse in the first place, not just punishment. Until we do that, this will never end.
