Altadena resident Timothy Rutt recognized for the vital role his blog  played in getting important information out to the community during the Station fire.

 

Report scheduled on County’s strategy for 2010 U.S. census.  (Item S-1, 11 a.m., cont. from 10/27) RECEIVED AND FILED

 

$45,000 settlement recommended in car accident lawsuit involving Marquis Bradley and former   Community Development Commission employee Jesus Enriquez Cida.  (Items 1-D, 1-H) APPROVED

 

Approval sought of grant applications for tree-planting projects at Castaic Lake Recreation Area, Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area, El Cariso Community Regional Park, Peter F. Schabarum Regional Park, Veterans Park and Whittier Narrows Regional Recreation Area.  (Item 2) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich requests public meetings be held to present findings of   report dealing with the feasibility of using hauled water for new residences in Acton, Agua Dulce, Juniper Hills and sparsely populated communities in the Antelope/Santa Clarita Valleys.   (Item 5) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Gloria Molina asks support of City of Los Angeles’ expansion of East Los Angeles State Enterprise Zone by 288 acres to stimulate business investment and job creation.  (Item 6) APPROVED

 

Action would extend $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for the murder of Michael Paul Miller, who was shot on the Long Beach Freeway near the Third Street exit in 2007. (Item 7) APPROVED

 

Acceptance of $25,666 grant would fund participation in development of statewide system to allow officials to determine in real time the most effective use of personnel/resources to improve the delivery of emergency medical services.  (Item 15) APPROVED

 

$246,500 proposal would fund mental health service program at Washington Preparatory High School in Los Angeles Unified School District to promote healthy childhood development and prevent violent behavior and drug use.  (Item 19) APPROVED

 

Board asked to approve contract to expedite building project design work at King Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center in hopes of qualifying for stimulus funding and receiving $56 million reimbursement of interest. (Item 26) APPROVED 5-0

 

Action would execute agreement with Pardee Homes to accept a lien upon the Mystery Mesa development in Canyon Country in place of existing bonds and cash deposit due to plans to modify the project.  (Item 27) APPROVED

 

Board asked to approve $10.8 million budget for the psychiatric urgent care center project at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and award $6.7 million construction contract. (Item 28) APPROVED 5-0

 

Recommendation calls for implementing local worker hiring program for County’s maintenance, repair and refurbishment of infrastructure and facilities.  (Item 29) APPROVED AS AMENDED, DIRECTING PRESENTATION OF PLAN TO BOARD IN TWO WEEKS

 

$1.5 million proposal would fund renovation of the boat launching facilities at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas.  (Item 31) APPROVED

 

Approval sought to accept the following grants:

 

• $223,000 to provide gang prevention services for high-risk youths in targeted areas within the Sheriff’s Century and Lennox Stations’ jurisdiction.  (Item 39) APPROVED 4-0
• $30,000 to purchase mobile trailer and equipment for after-school tutoring center to reduce criminal activity, delinquency, and truancy issues for at-risk sixth-eighth graders in Altadena.  (Item 40) APPROVED 4-0
• $350,000 to continue the review of violent crime cold-cases that have the potential to be solved using DNA analysis.  (Item 43) APPROVED

 

Approval sought to apply for $600,000 grant for program to identify and respond to the needs of children exposed to domestic violence within the Palmdale area.   (Item 42) APPROVED

 

Supervisors Don Knabe and Zev Yaroslavsky ask Board to approve plan that supports recreational and commercial fishing in Santa Monica Bay while protecting marine reserves and kelp habitats.  (Item 49-A)  APPROVED 5-0

 

Supervisors meet in closed session to consider lawsuit arising from allegations of harassment brought by an employee of the Department of Health Services. (Item CS-1, cont. from 10/20, 10/27)

 

Supervisors meet in closed session to consider lawsuit filed by Willie Woods alleging racial discrimination, retaliation, and failure to investigate by the Department of Children and Family Services. (Item CS-2)
