GLORIA MOLINA STATEMENT ON UC REGENTS VOTE TO
PARTNER WITH L.A. COUNTY IN REOPENING MLK HOSPITAL

Molina Hails Partnership with UC as ‘Extraordinary and Welcome’

LOS ANGELES (November 19, 2009)—Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina released the following statement today:

“With this morning’s vote by the University of California Regents, we have turned a major corner in reopening the Martin Luther King, Jr. Medical Center as a full-service hospital.  This development is both extraordinary and welcome.  We always have maintained that collaborating with Los Angeles County to bring health care services to the community would help the University of California fulfill its mission as defined by the Master Plan for Higher Education—the cornerstone of our state’s public education system.  Clearly, the UC Regents agree.  So I want to thank them for taking today’s historic step.  I look forward to collaborating with the UC to create a new health care model—one that will bring high-quality, locally accessible health care services to a community that critically needs them.”
