Larry King and National Health Leaders Discuss the

Obesity Epidemic Affecting Health Across the Nation

Free Health Fair and Screenings Raise Awareness for

Cardiac Disease Treatment and Prevention

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 2, 2009) – National health policy thought-leaders will convene at the Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California (USC) on Friday, November 6, 2009 to discuss the pressing issue of obesity and its connection to heart disease. The Southern California Health Leadership Panel, “The Obesity Crisis in America” will be followed by a “Road to Health Fair” and free health screenings. The fair, held at LAC+USC Medical Center, intends to raise awareness about the prevalence of cardiac disease and the necessary preventive measures.

The panel will be hosted by Larry King, talk show host and founder of the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, in partnership with COPE Health Solutions, the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California (LAC+USC) Medical Center and the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

The increasing rate of obesity within our communities has been a topic of concern for both children and adults in California and the nation. Too many patients, especially within California’s lower income population, lack the resources, access to care and education on improving their health. Within our current health care system, patients with chronic medical conditions receive episodic care, not the coordinated and preventive care that can help them improve their health status and quality of life.

The panel will be held before an audience of over 200 Southern California health care thought leaders and students. The panel will include representatives of health care systems and public and private stakeholders.

The panel, introduced by Pete Delgado, CEO of LAC+USC Healthcare Network, will include national and California health care experts:

• Devin Alexander, Television Chef and Best Selling Author

• Dr. Melina Jampolis, Board Certified Internist and Physician Nutrition Specialist

• Dr. Carmen Puliafito, Dean, Keck School of Medicine of USC

• Dr. Prediman K. (PK) Shah, Director, Division of Cardiology, Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute

• Dr. Karol Watson, Co-director, UCLA Center for Cholesterol and Lipid Management
