LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT EXPANDS ITS USE OF SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOGY TO COMBAT CRIME AND GANG VIOLENCE

           

 

WHO:             SHERIFF LEE BACA, SUPERVISOR MARK RIDLEY THOMAS; AND EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT TONI TOWNES-WHITLEY, UNISYS.

 

WHAT:           SHERIFF BACA WILL ANNOUNCE THE EXPANSION OF SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOGY IN THE CENTURY STATION AREA TO COMBAT CRIME AND GANG VIOLENCE.  THE ADVANCED SURVEILLANCE AND PROTECTION PLAN, KNOWN AS “ASAP,” FEATURES A VARIETY OF TECHNOLOGIES SUCH AS DIGITAL VIDEO SURVEILLANCE, ACOUSTIC GUNSHOT DETECTION AND AUTOMATIC LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION (ALPR) INTEGRATED INTO A COMMAND CENTER, FUNCTIONING WITHIN THE STATION’S DISPATCH CENTER.  THIS PARTNERSHIP WITH UNISYS WILL STRENGTHEN CRIME PREVENTION MEASURES IN THE UNINCORPORATED FLORENCE/FIRESTONE AREA.
