ANGELES CREST HIGHWAY AND CONNECTOR ROADS TO RE-OPEN

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will re-open SR-2 (Angeles Crest Highway), between La Canada and State Route 39 to through traffic on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 11:59 p.m.  The Highway had been closed to enable Caltrans to clean up debris flows caused by last weekend’s rainstorms.

As a result, motorists will be able to resume travel through the Angeles National Forest from Angeles Forest Highway to Angeles Crest Highway. The LA County Public Works Department had reopened Angeles Forest Highway, Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road earlier in the week.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling on all roads within the Station Fire burn area and that delays could be expected as Public Works and Caltrans continue to remove storm-related debris along roadsides and clear drainage facilities.

For information on California highways and freeways, please visit http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi or contact Caltrans Public and Media Affairs at 213-897-3656.

Motorists are further advised that County roads will be closed to the public again in the event of further winter storms.  Public Works will provide affected commuters and residents with as much advance warning as possible of anticipated road closures.

These warnings will be distributed through message boards, news radio alerts and media releases.  Road closure alerts will also be available on the Coordinated Agency Recovery Effort (CARE) website at www.dpwcare.org and the Public Works Road Closure website at http://dpwgis.co.la.ca.us/website/roadclosures/main.cfm.  Additionally, commuters and residents can receive free road closure warnings and updates via email by visiting www.dpwcare.org or www.dpw.lacounty.gov and registering to receive eNotify alerts.
