MEDIA ADVISORY

 

Pasadena families to learn healthy life style choices on December 10th.   

Training to promote age-appropriate nutrition and physical activity information for families

 

WHAT:              On Thursday, December 10th from 10 a.m. to noon, the Los Angeles County Commission for Children and Families in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Kinship Division and the City of Pasadena Public Health Department will sponsor a Community Wellness and Healthy Lifestyles special program for Twenty-five relative caregivers and their families who reside in or near Pasadena.  A Physical Activity and Nutrition Coordinator from the Pasadena Public Health Department will offer a number of interactive activities and demonstrations on healthy food choices including:  food tasting, understanding how to read nutritional labels, and raising awareness on the new food pyramid and nutritional standards released by the government.  In exchange for caregivers' feedback to help develop further trainings, children and caregivers will be provided with gifts.

 

                          This is the first in a series of trainings scheduled monthly throughout the county through May.  These seminars were developed in response to the passage of a new Board of Supervisor's Child Wellness Policy for the County to promote information on age appropriate nutrition and physical information to parents and caregivers.
