Linda Fujioka, mother of County Chief Executive Officer Bill Fujioka, recognized in honor of the posthumous awarding of an honorary degree from UC Berkeley to her late husband, William Fujioka, whose education was interrupted by the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. 

 

Report to be given on issues relating to transition to new LAC+USC Medical Center.  (Item S-1, 11 a.m.) RECEIVED AND FILED  

 

Approval sought to raise fees for regular marriage licenses from $70 to $90, and confidential marriage licenses from $70 to $85, to cover costs of administering services. (Item 1) APPROVED

 

Recommendation would approve road safety audit along Summit Knoll Road in Agua Dulce to address traffic safety concerns.  (Item 2) APPROVED

 

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich requests legal steps be taken to challenge the proposed Southern California Edison project to provide electrical infrastructure to transmit electricity created from wind power involving Kern/L.A./Riverside counties. (Item 3) REFERRED TO CLOSED SESSION

 

Support requested for California Secretary of State Debra Bowen’s election day registration bill, which would allow citizens to register and vote on the same day, in effort to increase participation in the democratic process.  (Item 4, cont. from 8/18, 9/8) YAROSLAVSKY REFERRED BACK TO HIS OFFICE

 

Supervisor Don Knabe requests adopting and incorporating the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation’s strategic plan into the County’s overall strategic plan.  (Item 5) APPROVED

 

Action would merge Commission on Alcoholism with Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission.  (Items 6, 27, cont. from 12/15) ANTONOVICH CONT. TO 1/12/10

 

Maximum four-year $4.1 million proposal would fund contract to develop/implement/maintain computer system to target fraud in CalWORKs child care program.  (Item 9) APPROVED

 

Three-year maximum $17.5 million contract would provide for continuation of services by 211 LA County to provide health and human services information and referrals to public. (Item 11) APPROVED

 

Recommendation calls for appointing Rigoberto Reyes as acting director of consumer affairs, at annual salary of $121,920, effective Jan. 6, 2010.   (Item 12) APPROVED

 

$235,992 settlement proposed involving claim arising from loss or theft of vendor’s surgical medical supplies that were in the custody/control of the LAC+USC Medical Center.  (Item 20) SETTLEMENT APPROVED; CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN CONT. TO 1/12/10

 

Action requests re-testing of quality of water in City of Los Angeles.  (Item 30-A) APPROVED

 

Recommendation calls for extending $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for death of 15-year-old Brenda Sierra, whose body was found near highway in San Bernardino County in 2002.  (Item 30-B)  APPROVED

 

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas asks Board to refer back to the Chief Executive Office a project approved Dec. 1 to renovate the supervisor’s office.   (Item 30-C)  APPROVED

 

In response to audit of Sheriff’s Department use of overtime, Supervisors Gloria Molina and Zev Yaroslavsky ask report on Jan. 19 on strategies for identifying and implementing additional overtime policies and controls.  (Motion introduced at meeting.)  APPROVED

 

Supervisors meet in closed session to consider candidates for fire chief.  (Item CS-2)
